Omega Xi Omega History
Reconnecting the Pearls
In the winter of 2013, Pamela Tinsley recognized the need to start a chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. that would provide service to the Macomb County area of Southeastern Michigan. (Pamela realized the activities she attended in the community were not benefiting the community in which she lived) After speaking with local resident and high school Principal, Nina Davis, it became more evident that there was truly a greater need for Alpha Kappa Alpha's presence in Macomb County, and the planning began to become an interest group.
Omega Xi Omega Approval
On June 30, 2015, the Great Lakes Regional Director, Ms. Toni S. Kendrick notified Pamela Tinsley that the group was approved. The AKA General Members’ group became an interest Group: The "Persevering Pearls of Promise Interest Group" or "P3 Interest Group" was born! The official notification arrived on July 9, 2015.
Serving With Passion and Purpose
P3 had a strong desire to serve the community, and the interest group selected officers. Persevering Pearls of Promise were eager to introduce the 2015-2018 Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Program: "Launching New Dimensions of Service" to Macomb County! The P3 Interest Group began to implement the five (5) Program Targets by offering and participating in Educational Enrichment, Health Promotion, Family Strengthening, Environmental Ownership and Global Impact activities. Persevering Pearls of Promise formed partnerships with non-governmental organizations, Civic Groups, and Governmental Enterprises throughout Macomb County. Partnerships included ONEMACOMB, Macomb County Executive - Mark Hackel, Turning Point Services, Inc., Macomb, Pastor John L. Mack and the Greater New Hope Baptist Church, Macomb County YMCA, Macomb County Rotating Emergency Shelter Team (MCREST), Haven Place, Project Serve, Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and the UNA-USA of Greater Detroit.
